“Assemblage 5,” an exhibition featuring the works of British designer Faye Toogood (b.1977) will be on view from February 23 through April 15, 2017 at Friedman Benda, New York. The selection on display explores ancient animist notions of the elements water, earth and moon. Toogood’s signature use of geometry and form are visible throughout. Her use of lithium-barium crystal, cob composite and silver nitrate bronze materials marks the use of such elements for the first time by the artist. Inspired by primitive concepts and archetypes, works in this series draw imagery from cups, pews, spoons and beads. Sculptural archaic relics such as a hand-formed, oversized solitaire game and wearable tapestries reflect the strong spiritual character of the show. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery and in the United States. The exhibition is on view at Friedman Benda, 515 W 26th St, New York, NY 10001, USAFor details, visit: http://www.friedmanbenda.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the artist’s work.
