World Architecture Festival (WAF) has revealed its 2019 shortlist, with many of the projects demonstrating how buildings can play a major role in a more sustainable future. The 12th edition of the WAF, the world’s biggest architectural awards program, will take place in Amsterdam later this year, informs the press release.2019 shortlist for the WAF awards features 534 entries from across 70 countries. Among the forerunners are included Heatherwick Studio for “The Vessel,” a landmark structure in New York, and Safdie Architects for “Jewel Changi Airport.” Multiple projects by big firms Bjarke Ingels Group and Zaha Hadid Architects; as well as smaller individual firms like JKMM architects for “amos rex,” a subterranean museum in Helsinki also makes way into the list. Other studios competing for the title include EFFEKT Architects that entered its “Camp Adventure Tower,” and Woods Baggot with “St Andrews Beach House.” Winners of the titles, “The World Building of the Year,” as well as the “Future Project of the Year,” will be announced at the event in Amsterdam.“We have been inspired by the levels of innovation in this year’s entries that show the incredible range of ways in which architects are responding to the global climate and biodiversity emergencies we face,” WAF program director Paul Finch told dezeen.The 534-strong shortlist includes architectural achievements for private residential buildings, education, infrastructure, healthcare, hospitality, cultural/civic, interior, and landscape projects. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
