Plans to build a rooftop infinity pool with 360-degree views of the London skyline has been unveiled by Compass Pools, a UK-based swimming pool building, and supply firm. The four-sided infinity pool would be built atop a London skyscraper and can access via a submarine-style door, reports dezeen. The project named “Infinity London” has been described by the swimming pool manufacturer as the “only building in the world to incorporate a 360-degree infinity pool.”The dezeen report informs that the pool, “is imagined atop a 220-meter-high, 55-story skyscraper. Containing 600,000 liters of water, it would be surrounded by clear walls made from acrylic. The bottom of the pool would also be transparent, so it could act as a skylight. At night it would be lit up with color-changing lights.”“Infinity London” will be constructed from cast acrylic and will feature transparent sides and floors. This will allow visitors below to watch swimmers splashing around above them. There are no stairs on the outside of the pool or the building. Swimmers will be given access to the pool through a spiral staircase that rotates and rises through the water.“We faced some major technical challenges to this building, the biggest one being how to actually get into the pool,” said Compass Pool’s swimming pool designer and technical director Alex Kemsley in a press note on the company’s website. He added: “The solution is based on the door of a submarine, coupled with a rotating spiral staircase, which rises from the pool floor when someone wants to get in or out — the absolute cutting edge of swimming pool and building design and a little bit James Bond to boot!”Construction of the pool is scheduled to begin in 2020 above a five-star hotel. It would have a built-in anemometer to monitor wind speed and will be linked to a computer-controlled building management system that regulates the pool’s temperature and ensure that water doesn’t spill onto the streets below. Further, the water will be heated using waste energy from the building’s air conditioning system. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
