R & Company, New York, is hosting a new exhibition titled “Dinner,” featuring works by Pierre Yovanovitch, The Haas Brothers, Katie Stout, Oscar Niemeyer, Joaquim Tenreiro, Jeff Zimmerman, Rogan Gregory, Renate Muller, Kelly Lamb, and Ashley Hicks. On view through June 18, 2019, the exhibition celebrates the tradition of dining with a presentation of historical and contemporary seating, tables, objects and lighting.“For this exhibition, we explored the idea of dinner as a place for comfort and gathering by creating a series of unique table settings. By mixing a range of historical and contemporary designs together, we are able to present timeless vignettes that are both refreshing and fun,” says principal Zesty Meyers. “Dinner is a place where you can eat, relax and connect with your friends, family and colleagues. We wanted to present the opportunity for different dining settings that can serve that purpose.”The works in the exhibition include impeccably crafted designs that date back as early as the 1940s to recent works made this year.“On view are seven unique table settings that each consist of varying pieces. Displayed in the lower level gallery, the tables are presented under a group of lighting dramatically hung in the 40-foot atrium space,” states the press note.“Dinner” includes furniture by Brazilian modern designers Joaquim Tenreiro, Sergio Rodrigues and Oscar Niemeyer, as well as seating by Danish modern designer Ole Wanscher. The exhibition also has new designs by The Haas Brothers as well as the latest dining set from Pierre Yovanovitch’s celebrated “OOPS” collection. In their current work, The Haas Brothers explore aesthetic and formal themes related to nature, science fiction, sexuality, psychedelia and color theory in prolific materials. An expert in 20th century furniture, Pierre Yovanovitch is particularly fond of vintage Scandinavian and American design that he combines with custom-made pieces of his own creation. Central to his interiors work is Yovanovitch’s passion for Contemporary art. Katie Stout’s work is refreshingly disarming in its simultaneous sense of dark irony and the joyful celebration of childhood innocence that it evokes.100 years after his birth and after 80 years of international architecture and design projects, Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture now serves as the singular visual reference for Brazilian Modernism worldwide, with the most iconic example being his full-scale design of the capital city, Brasilia. Joaquim Tenreiro proposed a contemporary language and advocated the idea that Brazilian furniture should be “formally light…A lightness which has nothing to do with weight itself, but with graciousness, and the functionality of spaces.” Drawn formally from nature, they result from the dramatic pushing, pulling, dripping and spinning actions through which they took shape — processes that Jeff Zimmerman exploits to suggest the mutability of the worlds around us and within us.Implementing a rigorous research and design process, Gregory Rogan created technically revolutionary fabric and garment construction, while his approach to clothing forms established him as a pioneer in a new generation of designers. Ashley Hicks has designed architecture and interiors in the UK, Europe and the United States, mixing private residential projects with larger-scale commercial work. Kelly Lamb is an artist and designer whose work spans diverse disciplines, including sculpture, photography, video, ceramics, furniture, product and interior design. “Dinner” is on view through June 18, 2019, at R & Company, at R & Company, 64 White Street, NY 10013, USA.For more information, visit: https://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/r-and-company/overviewClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
