The Aga Khan Award for Architecture has shortlisted projects for its 2019 awards, which includes participants for 16 different countries. The shortlisted project will be vying for US$ 1 million in prize money.The shortlisted entries include two projects from Bangladesh — Arcadia Education Project and Amber Denim Loom Shed, and three projects from the UAE — Concrete at Alserkal Avenue, in Dubai, Al Mureijah Art Spaces, in Sharjah, and Wasit Wetland Centre, in Sharjah. Other entries include projects from Bahrain, China, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Russian Federation, Senegal, Turkey, and Uganda.“In January, an independent Master Jury reviewed hundreds of nominations. The 20 shortlisted projects are now undergoing rigorous investigations by a team of experts who visit and evaluate each project on-site. Their reports are the basis for the Master Jury’s selection of the eventual laureates,” the Aga Khan Foundation said in a press note.The nine members of the 2019 Master Jury are Anthony Kwame Appiah, Meisa Batayneh, Sir David Chipperfield, Elizabeth Diller, Edhem Eldem, Mona Fawaz, Kareem Ibrahim, Ali M. Malkawi, and Nondita Correa Mehrotra.
