“Modern Japanese Design,” an ongoing exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery showcasing the past 50 years of Japanese design will run through January 31, 2017.The selection on display is primarily taken from Manchester’s own collections and comprises the works of 32 designers with over 100 pieces showcasing the unique Japanese design philosophy. The exhibition brings together fashion, furniture, lighting, ceramics, glass, metalwork and jewelry. Japanese design has always incorporated an inherent respect for nature and natural forces that is evident from the innovative use of materials and their use of revolutionary techniques. The design also examines the influence of Buddhism on aesthetic and conceptual Japanese design through concepts such as minimalism, and deconstruction.The exhibition is on view at Manchester Art Gallery, Mosley St, Manchester M2 3JL, UK.
