“Heated Exchanges: Innovative Approaches to Collaboration in Contemporary Glass,” an exhibition featuring the various properties of glass will run through February 5, 2017, at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre. The show features a combination of materials, makers, and ideas that push the limits of what we traditionally think of contemporary glass and what it can do. The manipulation of glass depends highly on a level of technical skill and creativity. This material is neither a liquid nor a solid. The exhibition showcases three UK artists who collaborate with this unique material to capture its form and shape. Harry Morgan’s gravity-defying sculptures capture glass’s fragility and strength against cool cast concrete. London-based Elinor Portnoy strips the material back to its origins, capturing its natural sand-like state against brightly colored vessels. Alexander Pearce’s wrought iron is combined with hot glass to create a stunning contrast of forms and materials. The exhibition is on view at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, 17 Oak St, Manchester M4 5JD, UK.
