The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced a new award for housing in memory of the British architect Neave Brown.Neave Brown (1929-2018) was a socially motivated, Modernist architect, who designed a series of celebrated London housing estates. Winner of the 2018 Royal Gold Medal for Architecture, Brown was best known for his works in London, including the Alexandra Road and Dunboyne Estates, which have served as the inspiration for various other estates.While introducing the award, RIBA President Ben Derbyshire said: “It is an honor to announce a new, very special RIBA award dedicated to the late Neave Brown.” “Neave’s contribution to housing will not be forgotten. He was a passionate pioneer who sought radical housing solutions to improve the lives of the local communities he served, and much can be learned from his work.”According to the website of RIBA, projects eligible for consideration will be as follows: A project that has won a 2019 RIBA Regional Award; features ten or more homes completed and occupied between November 1, 2016 and February 1, 2019; and has one third of the housing as affordable, as well as provides an evidence of meeting the challenge of housing affordability.According to RIBA, the shortlist for the Neave Brown Award for Housing will be announced on July 25, 2019 and the winner will be announced at the RIBA Stirling Prize ceremony in October 2019. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
