R & Company presented a curated selection of contemporary work alongside historical masterpieces at the recently held 2019 FOG Design + Art Fair from January 17-20.About the gallery’s participation in the fair, Evan Snyderman, co-founder and principal of R & Company, said: “We love the San Francisco collecting community. I find that although that community is smaller than in Miami or New York, the collectors are highly seasoned and sophisticated with some of the most refined tastes in the country. I also enjoy the closeness of that community and am thrilled to be able to work together with so many great collectors there.”In 2017, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SF MoMA) acquired a “Girl” table lamp by contemporary designer Katie Stout, who has been associated with R & Company since 2016. According to the gallery, the Brooklyn-based designer is renowned for her “Girl” series of nude female forms, created often with gilded erogenous zones, hand sculpted in clay and painted in bright candied hues. Stout created an additional lifesize “Girl” floor lamp for FOG 2019, which was displayed along with her other works, including a papier-mache vanity, a hand-built and glazed ceramic stool, and handmade table lamps, demonstrating the breadth of her practice.French interior designer and architect Pierre Yovanovitch also participated in the fair for the first time with the gallery. “It is an honor to showcase my furniture works at FOG Art + Design fair this year. As a Paris-based designer, with a strong connection to European craftsmanship, it’s wonderful to see my pieces exist in the context of the emerging and exciting design community of San Francisco. For each of these works, the MAD Armchair, the MAD Stool, the E.T. Lamp, the Marsha Floor Lamp and the Lewis Stool, I wanted my strong imagination, love for natural, mixed materials and commitment to craft to shine through. I’m delighted to have these pieces, which are a part of my larger furniture and lighting collection entitled OOPs, on display at R & Company’s booth for the duration of the FOG fair,” said Yovanovitch.Another highlight was Amagansett-based designer Rogan Gregory’s sculptural polar bear coffee table, hand-sculpted in white gypsum from Montauk, New York, along with his “Fertility Form” illuminated sculpture in matching white gypsum. The gallery also showcased works by Brazilian design master Joaquim Tenreiro; master glassmaker Jeff Zimmerman’s unique hand-blown and cut glass vessels; LA-based designer Kelly Lamb’s handmade ceramic gem clusters; British designer Ashley Hick’s totem sculptures; and the Haas Brothers’ unique “Stools of Attraction” beast stool in gray luxurious sheepskin with a cast bronze base, at FOG 2019.For more information, visit: http://www.r-and-company.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the collection. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
