Joy Mardini Design Gallery, Beirut, is hosting a group exhibition celebration of the gallery’s seventh year anniversary and a second edition of “Spectrum,” a group show launched back in 2015. The exhibition will be on view through February 28, 2019.The exhibition features the works of Marc Baroud, Karim Chaya, Georges Mohasseb and Thomas Trad.“A Spectrum is a band of colors, as seen in a rainbow, produced by separation of the components of light by their different degrees of refraction according to wavelength1,” says the gallery.Marc Baroud is a designer, with work spanning over various fields. His enthusiasm for new ventures led him to experiment his approach in projects that are seemingly unrelated to design. In his method, the process is designed first, thus turning it into a stand-alone outcome as it takes a form of its own. In 2012, he founded the Design Department at Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts which he directed from 2012 to 2017.Karim Chaya has a great love for designing objects, due to their longevity, functionality or the delight they impart in other people’s lives. And he always knew this, deciding to study industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design, before he established ACID.Spockdesign has been Chaya’s alias in the design world ever since his dog passed. The studio produces a wide variety of objects and furniture and perhaps one of its most distinguishing factors is its multifarious approach. Through his professional experience and intensive workshops Georges Mohasseb mastered wood furniture making techniques prominent in each of his designs. His passion for design has brought him to teach in many renowned academic institutions in Europe and in the U.S.Beirut based product designer Thomas Trad founded his studio in 2016, after graduating from London’s prestigious Central Saint Martin’s university. His work with world renowned studios Fredrikson Stallard and Michael Anastasiades revealed his meticulous approach to materials and fascination with manufacturing processes, a direction which is prevalent in his practice.Thomas continuously works on refining his techniques, in his search for the unexpected in contemporary design. His future projects will involve larger scale work and further discovery of new materials, sealing his reputation as one of the key emerging designers in Beirut. The exhibition is on view through February 28, 2019 at Joy Mardini Design Gallery, Najem bldg, ground floor, Gouraud street, Gemmayze, Beirut, Lebanon. For details, visit: http://jmdesigngallery.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
