Carpenters Workshop Gallery devises an immersive solo exhibition with new works by sculptural furniture designer Ingrid Donat, at PAD London 2018.The Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s exhibition at the PAD London 2018 features an immersive installation by sculptural furniture designer Ingrid Donat. Other artists in the the exhibition include: Frederik Molenschot, Atelier Van Lieshout, Wendell Castle, Nacho Carbonell, Kendell Geers, Gareth Mason, Frantisek Vizner, and Pierre Jeanneret. PAD London is on view through October 7, 2018.Ingrid Donat is a French-Swedish artist born in 1957. Donat trained at Ecole des Beaux Arts, and later she met with Sylva Bernt, who instructed her in the art of sculpture. Donat currently stands as one of the most influential living artists in Decorative Arts.Atelier Van Lieshout gained international recognition for sculptural installations featuring controversial or sinister nuances. Alongside playful perversion, the work conveys disdain for limitation and longing for freedom. Van Lieshout considers the body to be divine architecture with the viewer invited to interact with manufactured interior spaces resembling internal organs, acting out taboos and wish fulfillment. The founder of Studio Molen, Molenschot is a blur of constant energy, forever creating and developing new ideas and inspiring people. Molenschot crafts his work by hand and displays incredible diversity. Often credited as the founding father of the American crafts movement, Wendell Castle has redefined sculpture and design by seamlessly merging the two into one discipline. He creates unique pieces that blur the distinction between design and sculpture.“I like to see objects as living organisms, imagine them coming alive and being able to surprise you with their behavior. I want to create objects with my hands; then I can give them my personality. I turn them into communicative objects that can arouse one’s feelings and imagination. In short, what I want to create are objects with a fictional, or fantasy element that allow you to escape everyday life,” says Nacho Carbonell. Kendell Geers uses emblematic figures from art history, religious icons, and pornographic images to explore social limits. He is known for his vocabulary of barbed wire, barrels, truncheons, broken glass, and police tape — elements that convey a feeling of urgency. Each sculpture by Gareth Mason represents a small cosmic explosion. Intensely expressive, and energetic in character, Mason’s work reflects his eagerness to capture the dynamics, and the mysteries of creation.Frantisek Vizner trained at the Specialized School of Glassmaking in Zelezny Brod (1953-1956), and then he studied at the renowned Academy of Applied Arts in Prague (1956-1962). From 1967 to 1975, he worked in the design studio at Skrdlovice, a glassworks specializing in innovative hot-sculpting and blowing processes. Vizner left the Czechoslovak glass industry in 1975 to pursue a successful career as an independent artist.Pierre Jeanneret was a visionary of Modernist architecture and design. Jeanneret’s works imbued the strict geometry of Modernism with energetic diagonals, and lighter materials like cane, and wood. A consistent innovator, he collaborated with Charlotte Perriand on experiments in aluminium, and wood, and developed prefabricated housing with Jean Prouve.PAD London is on view through October 7, 2018.For more information, visit: http://carpentersworkshopgallery.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
