The Museum fur Gestaltung in Toni-Areal, Zurich presents “Social Design,” from October 5, 2018, to February 3, 2019.The exhibition keeps society and integration in mind with a display that looks at design for society and with society. Through resident-friendly cities, initiatives for integrating refugees, a loom for business start-ups, or a solar kiosk for local power supply, the show touches upon topics relevant in today’s world.“Social Design” features 25 international projects from areas of Urban Space and Landscape: Housing, Education, Work, Production, Migration, Networks, and the Environment. These projects represent a cross-section of the current areas being covered by “Social Design.” According to the museum, “the featured initiatives were selected on the basis of criteria such as their social and design qualities, the transparency of the associated process, the dialogue with and participation by those involved in the project and their empowerment towards building their own livelihoods, the transformation of social conditions, and the sustainability of the project results. The exhibition also integrates a forum enabling visitors to share their own knowledge, opinions, and ideas.”Our growth-based economy is resulting in dire consequences for us humans as well as the environment. “‘Social Design’ confronts increasing imbalances in resources, the means of production, and future prospects by relying on greater participation and fostering a dialogue on equal footing between individuals, civil society, government, and business. As in previous times of crisis, the focus today is on developing an open-minded social culture in order to reconceive social systems and living and working environments all over the world. With this goal in mind, architects, designers, artisans, and engineers are at work developing innovative solutions for the issues at hand,” states the museum. The aim is to make visitors aware that anyone can help shape society. A forum that is part of the exhibition lets them engage in talks, workshops, and an excursion with Social Design catalysts. “At participatory stations, people can have their say, exchange knowledge and ideas on a changing set of topics, recommend local Social Design initiatives, and take action themselves. For younger visitors, there is a children’s trail leading through the exhibition. A library encourages visitors to delve more deeply into the themes addressed. Regular updates on the forum program can be found on the museum website,” adds the museum.“Social Design” runs from October 5, 2018, through February 3, 2019, at Museum fur Gestaltung, Toni-Areal, Pfingstweidstrasse 96, 8031 Zurich, Switzerland. For details, visit: https://museum-gestaltung.ch/en/standort/toni-areal/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
