At its New York venue, R & Company will feature a survey of new work by Rogan Gregory in an exhibition titled “Known Unknown.”On view from September 13, “Known Unknown” is Gregory’s second solo exhibition with the gallery that takes place at the 64 White Street location in the three-floor atrium and lower level gallery.“For this exhibition, Rogan draws inspiration from biological, geological and extraterrestrial forms he discovers in his travels. The study of sea life, fluid dynamics and geology, have been a leading influence for Rogan’s practice and has triggered his interest in how form is governed by weightlessness and neutral buoyancy,” the gallery says.Rogan’s oeuvre is his inherent relationship to material, technique and innovation. Pairing classic sculptural mediums, such as wood, bronze and stone with materials such as beach sand, igneous rocks and composite materials, he sources and creates his pieces. The contrast of polished technology with anthropomorphic pigmentation define the subtle palette of the show with bronze, stainless steel, natural woods, raw resin and bright terrazzo.“Often working by hand in his studio in the tradition of the masters, Rogan’s organic approach to sculpting has resulted in a series of romantic works that are surreal yet familiar. Rogan often questions the idea of utility in his practice and his work spans the spectrum from useful to useless. Merging both contemporary sculpture and design, Rogan simultaneously creates practical tools and abstract forms that question our perception of function and utility,” the gallery adds.Rogan Gregory (b. 1972) began his career in New York City as a design consultant for luxury fashion brands. His unique approach combined a sculptural perspective with the street energy of New York, filtered through his nuanced sensibility for design, architecture and science. In 2004, he co-founded the Loomstate brand and in 2005, he designed Edun, his first clothing collection for Bono and Ali Hewson. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Vogue/CFDA fashion fund award.Initially founded as R 20th Century in 1997 by Zesty Meyers and Evan Snyderman, the gallery is defined by its combined goals of promoting a closer study, appreciation, and preservation of 20th and 21st century design. Celebrating 20 years in business, R & Company represents a distinguished group of historic and contemporary designers whose work is among the most innovative and finely crafted of their time. “Known Unknown” will be on view from September 13 through October 22, 2018 at R & Company, 64 White Street, New York, USA.For details, visit: http://www.r-and-company.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
