As part of London Design Festival, So Last Century Vintage and Retro Fair will open at Wembley Park, the first and only of its kind in the area.Wembley Park’s first curated season of cultural events “Summer of Play,” will host So Last Century vintage market as part of this year’s London Design Festival. So Last Century has been running successful vintage and retro events — with the emphasis on affordable, hand-picked offerings — in south London since 2015. Wembley Park is their inaugural outing north of the river, bringing for the first time a vintage market to this part of the London.Opening on September 23, the fair will showcase 25 top-quality, hand-picked vintage traders inside Brent Library and at Wembley Park’s Market Square, selling affordable mid-century century furniture, lighting and design, ceramics, kitchenalia, original artworks and prints, antique maps, repurposed goods, vintage clothes, and accessories. In partnership with Wembley Park, So Last Century will also present stalls from artists’ resident at Second Floor Studios & Arts. Second Floor Studios & Arts currently runs 26 new high quality, affordable spaces for artists, makers, and designers on site at Wembley Park, supported by developer Quintain. Providing new high quality affordable studios and long term affordable employment space for artists, makers, and designers forms part of the long term cultural strategy for Wembley Park as it transforms into London’s newest creative district. The duo behind So Last Century is Alan Old, formerly a practising architect, and Alison Davis, an ex-planning policy advisor. They share an interest in the built environment, which has always led them to site their fairs in locations of historical interest.Davis said: “We are thrilled to be involved with Wembley Park’s development, as it demonstrates an interesting change in use of contemporary living space and place-making. It’s exciting to think our traders’ vintage offerings will be adding unique touches to these modern design-led apartments.”James Saunders from Quintain said, “As this area is rapidly transforming into a new residential neighbourhood, we thought it would be fantastic to bring a retro fair close to so many people setting up home in our Tipi apartments. Although you can rent a flat fully furnished, people love accessorising their home with authentic retro items!”As part of London Open House 2018 weekend, Wembley Park is hosting a series of guided tours showcasing how dramatically Wembley Park has changed over the years and what the future holds for the area. Tour highlights will include visits to Second Floor Studios & Arts, SSE Arena, Wembley, the award-winning Alto development, Tipi at Emerald Gardens, London Designer Outlet, and an interactive masterplan model of the new Wembley Park.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
