Marika Broere and Tony Hillebrandt have recently finished the restoration work at the Eppstein House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1950s. The owners have listed the property on Airbnb, making it possible for the admirers of the star architect to experience his classic design aesthetics first hand. The house has been restored to its original beauty with the renovation of the roof, ceiling, concrete floors, and outdoor awnings as well as its signature textile blocks that have been stained with UV protective coating. The interiors have also been rebuilt and adorned with original Frank Lloyd Wright furniture along with other furniture pieces and artworks from the period. The 1950s aesthetics are complemented with modern electrical, plumbing, and climate control systems. For the owners Marika Broere and Tony Hillebrandt, who brought the property 18 months back, “Everything about the house is exciting! It is deceptively simple. The way the natural light comes in at different times of the day, how low it is set into the hill, the outlook into the surrounding nature, the then low - then high ceilings, the materials, the historic value, the subdued colors. We can go on and on. It will never become boring.”The house, located in Galesburg Michigan, will also be opened to visitors once a year, noted ArchDaily.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the Eppstein House.
