Galerie Dutko, Paris presents the latest works of Tom Henderson in the exhibition, “Acoustic Light.” Henderson’s works are a play of light, colors, mirrors, acrylic, and plywood, carved, created and finished with the help of mechanical cutters, car lacquer, and drypoint pens. The artist-designer loves to work with the sculptor’s material, fascinated by what movement, optical illusion, chance, and his curiosity can do to the material. He finds wood friendly and calming, which lends itself easily to be cut, colored, chiseled, and glued. He also enjoys working with cast acrylic, which is easy like wood and also brings a dash of glow and translucence.Henderson’s works are best appreciated when the viewer views them while moving, which opens up different perspectives. In the “Wall” and “Flatland” series, the surface seems to change like moiré silk. In the “Arclight” series, acrylic sheets are cut into grids, and their edges are sprayed with color. When these segments are reassembled, the work seems to take a three-dimensional feel with the color that appears to be permeating within the surface of the painting. Henderson’s works fall in the space of poetic minimalism, which is intellectually stimulating and characterized by pure aesthetic reduction. The exhibition is on view through November 30, 2017, at Galerie Dutko, 11, rue Bonaparte, 75006 Paris For more information, visit: http://www.blouinartinfo.com/galleryguide/galerie-dutko/overviewClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
