In the prized sculpture’s place, the monument "The Wedge of 700 years" ("The Bronze Shield") will be installed. It was in 1995 that Tchaikovsky’s monument was first installed in Klin, a city that he had close connections with. He composed "The Queen of Spades", "Sleeping Beauty", the Sixth Symphony and many other works in Klin. It is therefore difficult to guess why the monument is being moved so soon.Sculptor Christopher Gevorgyan fashioned the monument for the composer’s 155th anniversary, which was inaugurated before thousands of residents of the city and installed in Klin’s historical center – a square nestled close to the Trade rows and the Cathedral building, which was a favorite of Tchaikovsky. Over the years, it symbolized the connection between Tchaikovsky and Klin, a pilgrimage site for those who admired the Russian maestro’s compositions.Reportedly, the residents of Klin were steadfast in their opinion that even if a new monument was erected to celebrate the city’s 700th anniversary, the Tchaikovsky sculpture should remain undisturbed.
