Dutch Design Week Ambassador Winy Maas of MVRDV has collaborated with The Why Factory to curate a vibrant architecture installation (W)ego exploring the possibility of a flexible future city.(W)ego is designed as a flexible space, with nine rooms that can be configured in different ways, and re-imagine how occupants could use the space. The users are invited to explore imaginative possibilities like sleeping suspended in air or inside a vertical garden, occupying a room that is made of stairs, or a room that is billboard or a shimmering grotto. The colorful rooms — in bright pink, purple, acid green and blue — present egoistic perspectives of a user’s imagination of his or her dream room. However, as the space is limited, the user has to confront the dreams of other occupants and find a way to negotiate with each other in that limited space. The occupants have to collaborate with each other while protecting their individual ideals, which opens up the possibility of creating something better. The intrusions and negotiations also spark curiosity to check out what is happening ‘next door.’ Hence, Ego makes way for (W)ego. The installation explores the future of urban dwellings, which could be designed as flexible living spaces for optimal use of the limited urban space.(W)ego is on display at Markt Square throughout the Dutch Design Week from October 21 through October 29, 2017.For details, visit: http://www.ddw.nl/Click here for a sneak peek at the installation.
