Curated by Studio Formafantasma, Design Academy Eindhoven’s graduation show 2017 “Mined” presents 177 projects.The graduation show presents the outcomes of Design Academy Eindhoven’s fundamental research and reflections. “Mined,” the theme and title of the show, encompasses the many directions that stemmed from this approach. From reconstructions to storytelling, from archaeology to investigative reporting, and from a tool that makes body language noticeable for a visually-impaired listener to an analysis of how a flush toilet can become a metaphor for political oppression and racial discrimination, the show probes deeper into possibilities.Students mined their personal lives as well as data sets, codes of law and material, and technological possibilities to address omnipresent concerns, creating alternatives for existing models, systems, and products. The process of going through innumerable fragments and raw materials to compose possible answers gave rise to results that are simultaneously personal and universal.
