Lee Broom’s studio completes ten years and to celebrate the London-based designer has created all-black versions of his most famous furniture and lighting pieces. The collection titled “On Reflection”, will be on display at the London Design Festival from 16 to 24 September, 2017. For one week during the festival, Broom’s store in Shoreditch will be done up entirely in black and charcoal grey, to serve as a camouflaged art deco-inspired backdrop for the all-black collection. In a press statement, the studio said that the collection will be “presented in a tableau of an interior which will stylistically mix Art Deco and Bauhaus influences” and “visitors will be presented with a scene where nothing is quite what it first appears to be”.The collection includes pieces such as the Hanging Hoop chair made from two brass-plated metal circles, and the Crescent light created from an illuminated sphere that has been sliced and shifted, reports Dezeen magazine. Other interesting works are totally black versions of the totemic-style Fulcrum light, the Carousel pendant and On The Rock glassware. The designer’s 10th anniversary celebrations began a while ago — he populated a carousel with products he has designed over the last decade at Milan Design Week in April and devised a grandfather clock inspired by brutalism, of which only 10 pieces were manufactured, to mark the ten years since the launch of Broom’s studio. He has designed the interiors for various stores, hotels and homes, including a prostitution-themed restaurant and personal shopping suite for Topman. The London Design Festival has been providing a platform to designers, architects, artists and retailers since 2003. Several large-scale installations, exhibitions and events pop up in many inimitable spaces across London, including renowned museums and small local studios during the festival.Click here to view the collection.
