“Endogeneities,” an exhibition of works by Guatemalan architect Alejandro Paz is on view at LIGA, Espacio para Arquitectura, Mexico City. The exhibition consists of a series of mysterious artifacts, the adjustable pilings that replaced the original foundations of the building where LIGA is based, and which are periodically corrected by the engineers responsible for making sure the enormous structure remains standing. The gallery space remains empty with music playing in the background as images are piled on the windows. The foundation sees the light in the form of these images. The show raises several questions such as what would happen if we turned music into a frame for architectural space. Paz’s work is a response to this strategy by filling an empty space with music. Notes act as bricks, pieces of music as spaces, and melody as the structure.Alejandro Paz (b. 1975, Guatemala City) graduated as an architect from Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala City in 2003. He has been active in the fields of architecture and design in Guatemala, Central America, the Caribbean and the United States of America. He has participated in a number of individual and group exhibitions. Paz Arquitectura is an architecture studio established in 2005 by Alejandro Paz. Paz Arquitectura approaches each project as an opportunity to question the nature of every element that shapes the design to provide efficient and positive solutions for the user. The studio sees architecture as an opportunity to intervene in human lives to improve our living conditions and our development in the world we inhabit. The exhibition is on view from May 25 through September 7, 2017, at LIGA, Espacio para Arquitectura, Av. Insurgentes Sur 348, Cuauhtémoc,, Roma Sur, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico. For details, visit: http://liga-df.com/liga/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition. Read more
