“Fables for the Drone Age” an exhibition of works by Australian artist and architect Richard Goodwin will run through July 29, 2017, at Betts Project, London. The exhibition explores Goodwin’s research into urban parasitic architecture through the concept of porosity that can expand the uses of public space and open up the city. Initially an architect Goodwin eventually forayed into sculptural installation and through this new role he has opened up new dimensions in the planning of urban spaces and has redefined how architecture interacts within the physical and cultural contexts. Porosity for Goodwin is a barrier-free connection between the public and private domains that resist sanitization, compartmentalization, and the eventual alienation of the public space.Richard Goodwin’s (b.1953, Sydney, Australia) work resides in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Art Gallery of NSW; National Gallery of Victoria; Nuremberg City Museum, Germany; Allen, Allen & Hemsley, Sydney, among others. He is the recipient of many awards, including The Wynne Prize for 2011, Art Gallery of New South Wales, The Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award, the Sydney Water Prize for Sculpture By The Sea. Goodwin’s work has been exhibited across Australia and internationally, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (2013); Gwangju Design Biennale, South Korea and Today Modern Museum, Beijing (2011). Goodwin has been selected to exhibit at the Australian Pavilion for the 2008, 2010 and 2012 Venice Architecture Biennales. The exhibition is on view at Betts Project, 100 Central St, London EC1V 8AJ, UK.For details, visit: www.bettsproject.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
