New Minds Studio is hosting an exhibition titled “When Visual Guidance Isn’t Enough,” featuring works of Brazilian artist Marcos Amaro, from September 13 through September 16, 2016, at Parasol Projects, New York. The exhibition brings together many works by Marcos Amaro, who utilizes industrial materials such as fuselage of an airplane, to create highly abstract and sculptural compositions. These works unveil the beauty beyond the functional purpose of these objects and projects the artist’s emotional connections with these machines. Amaro’s father was a pilot and his mother was a fashion designer and he fuses his parent’s professions to create his own works from discarded aircraft and textiles. His works on aircraft reflects Brazil’s rich history of aviation, possibly drawing reference of Brazilian aeronautical pioneer Alberto-Santos Dumont’s creations. Amaro deconstructs these planes, mapping the parts that is integrated in the engineering of the machine, and demonstrates how these different parts fit together. He also incorporates the use of Brazilian military equipment, like an orange tarp, marking the nation’s military and political importance. The exhibition is on view at Parasol Projects, 2 Rivington Street, New York, NY 10002, United States.
