“Monobloc – A Chair for the World” an exhibition centered around the idea of the Monobloc chair will run through July 9, 2017, at Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, Germany. The selection of works on display looks at the most widely used piece of furniture in the world, the white plastic chair. The exhibition narrates the story of the Monobloc chair through 20 objects and determines the history and cultural connotations of a piece of furniture that is used be it in European gardens, African cafés, or Asian restaurants. The idea of the chair is based on a vision that is shared by many artists to design a chair out of a single piece of material. The exhibit also contains extensive background information and images of the Monobloc in many different contexts ranging from Garden parties to political crisis zones and depicts the complexity of material culture in our time. The exhibition is on view at Vitra Design Museum, Charles-Eames-Straße 2, 79576 Weil am Rhein, Germany. For details, visit: http://www.design-museum.de/de/informationen.htmlClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek of the exhibition.
