Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum is hosting an exhibition “Ellen Degeneres Selects” that will be on view through May 21, 2017.The exhibition is the 14th instalment of the museum’s ‘Select’ series - an ongoing program under which eminent personalities are invited to curate and interpret the museum’s collection that includes more than 210,000 objects. For this instalment, renowned American television host, actress, writer and producer Ellen DeGeneres comes forward to articulate an eclectic design aesthetic with an installation of 50 objects from the museum’s permanent collection, based on the art pieces she has acquired for her own personal collection at home. Keeping the mid-century modernism as a pivot, the exhibition ensembles objects from a diverse range of styles, places and time periods, that features articles like an ancient Egyptian votive box or a Peruvian earthenware vessel to a more recent 1935 drawing by Christina Malman and a late 19th century music box. Also on view are objects from DeGeneres’ private collection, including lamps she found in a Parisian flea market. The exhibition is on view at Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt Museum, 2 East 91st Street, New York, NY 10128, USA.
