An exhibition titled “House & Home” is currently on view at The National Building Museum in Washington DC.The exhibition brings together a kaleidoscopic display of photographs, objects, models, and films that takes its viewers on a tour of houses both familiar and surprising, through past and present, telling a full range of stories about the history of the American home. Remarkable transformations in technology, laws, and consumer culture have revolutionized the American domestic life over time. Through an immersive installation, the exhibition employs “please-touch” walls made out of different materials used in residential construction over time, from adobe bricks to Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) systems, along with intricate scale models representing iconic residential architecture including Fallingwater and Chicago’s Hancock Center, collectively surprising, educating, and entertaining its viewers. Also on view are three sets of specially commissioned films featuring contemporary and historical images, which completes the whole theme of the exhibition.The exhibition is on view at National Building Museum, 401 F Street North West, Washington, DC 20001, USA.
