Tech is rising and taking over across the globe, but of course not without consequences. A tech company that gained popularity for its efforts to help law enforcement agencies through the use of nonviolent robots has come under fire after a promotional video surfaced. While the company’s “Values & Ethics” webpage claims the company has a “duty to bring these technologies into the world responsibly” and a commitment to “never build technologies designed to hurt or kill,” the promotional video, dated in 2018 and obtained by The Intercept depicts a more violent vision. The video features Brinc Drone’s founder and CEO, Blake Resnick, and depicts how the company’s drones can be used to deter, track, interrogate, and even inflict pain on those suspected to be migrants. The video pitch has rightfully been condemned by activists. In it, Resnick demonstrates how the stun gun-armed drone can attack migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. He does this by including a Latino actor in the video referred to as “Jose.” Read more
