Ever since Steve Bannon boasted to journalist Sarah Posner—just before being hired as Donald Trump’s campaign manager—that his publication at the time, Breitbart News, was “the platform for the alt-right,” it’s been self-evident what direction his right-wing populist politics were heading: straight towards white nationalism and neofascism. That’s become even more apparent in the years since he left the White House, promoting his far-right-authoritarian political vision globally, from Australia to Europe, and more recently conducting a relentless campaign of undermining democracy on his popular “Steve Bannon’s War Room” podcast and elsewhere. His mob of followers—the people he likes to call the right’s “shock troops”—are clearly headed in that direction as well. Recently, an “unofficial” Telegram channel for “Steve Bannon’s War Room Pandemic” with 65,000 followers posted an item boosting the neofascist Patriot Front organization and its recent march in Washington, D.C., linking to a white-nationalist website that described the march as “glorious.” Read more
