It is a known fact that serpenti creations feature among Bulgari’s best-known jewelry collections. Their most likeable element is the combination of precious stones with the attractive symbol of the snake. As serpenti creations are important to Bulgari and have been its most popular jewelry pieces, the brand paid tribute to this inspiring symbol. Bulgari conceptualized an exhibition called “SerpentiForm,” and executed it this year at the Chengdu Museum in China. The “SerpentiForm” exhibition is currently on view until August 25, 2019, at the Chengdu Museum.“The snake is a powerful universal symbol that has inspired myriad interpretations in art. In the 1940s, Bulgari captured the expressive power of the snake, reinterpreting it in supple bracelet-watches that gracefully coil around the wrists of women. The pieces rapidly became an icon of the jewelry house’s bold creativity, inspiring new pieces that join the Serpenti collection. In jewelry form, the snake is elevated and celebrated, set with diamonds and precious gems,” says LVMH.To mark the contribution and popularity of this motif and its boundless power to inspire, Bulgari based the “SerpentiForm” exhibition on the various artwork created on and around snakes. The exhibition explored the resonance of the snake as a symbol in art throughout history. Various art forms like painting, design and fashion to the decorative arts and photography have been influenced by the charm of snake and many great artists have formed their creativity drawing inspiration from the reptile over the millennia. There are innumerable interpretations, a few of them are the menacing snake in the painting “The Sin” by Franz Stuck (1893) and Nikki de Saint Phalle’s use of snake that are all decked up, colorful and with rounded curves in her sculptures (2001).It won’t be surprising if the visitors went to the exhibitions looking for the serpenti jewelry pieces of Bulgari because that’s the most popular form of jewelry from the maison and many Hollywood divas have flaunted them on many occasions. The exhibition considered this fact and ensured that the exhibition displayed some private collections from the maison and a few of the most precious Bulgari Serpenti pieces. Some of them, in fact, were created especially for the “SerpentiForm” exhibition. This wasn’t the first time that such an exhibition has been organized by the brand. The serpenti exhibition was held with success in Rome in 2016 and in Singapore and Tokyo in 2017. This time around, the exhibition was kicked started in Chengdu by Jean-Christophe Babin, Chairman and CEO of Bulgari.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
