Estimate: 40,000 GBP - 50,000 GBP (50,680 USD - 63,350 USD)— LOT 860: “A Super Lot Of Lafite-Rothchild.” Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. Comprises:2000 (12)2001 (12)2002 (12)2003 (12)2004 (12)All in original wooden cases. 60 bottles per lot. Estimate: 32,000 GBP - 45,000 GBP (40,544 USD - 57,015 USD)— LOT 95: “Legendary Petrus.” Petrus 1982. Pomerol, cru exceptionnel. In original wooden case. Slightly scuffed capsules. Eight labels damaged by wooden rails of original wooden case. Levels: base of neck or better. 12 bottles per lot. Estimate: 30,000 GBP - 40,000 GBP (38,010 USD - 50,680 USD)— LOT 145: Petrus 1989: “Pomerol, cru exceptionnel.” In original wooden case. Two slightly damp stained labels. Levels: base of neck or better. Tasting note: This wine is more tightly knit, more tannic, but every bit the blockbuster concentrated effort that its younger sibling, the 1990, is. It seems to need more coaxing from the glass, but the color is virtually identical, a dense ruby/purple with no lightening at the edge. In the mouth the wine cuts a broad swath, with spectacular intensity, richness, massive concentration, and high levels of tannin, yet the wine is fabulously well-delineated and like its sibling, the 1990, has a finish that goes on for nearly a minute. It does not seem to be quite as evolved as the 1990, and my instincts suggest there is a bit more tannin, but both are as prodigious as Petrus can be. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate Bordeaux Book 4th Edition, January 2003. 12 bottles per lot. Estimate: 30,000 GBP - 40,000 GBP (38,010 USD - 50,680 USD)— LOT 162: Petrus 1990: “Pomerol, cru exceptionnel.” In original wooden case. One slightly stained label. Levels: base of neck or better. Tasting note: The 1990 Petrus remains incredibly young, one of the least evolved wines of the vintage (along with Montrose and Beausejour-Duffau). This dense ruby/purple-colored effort is beginning to hint at the massive richness and full-bodied intensity lurking beneath its wall of tannin. The vintage’s sweetness, low acidity, and velvety tannins are present in abundance, and the wine is massive in the mouth as well as incredibly pure and well-delineated. I thought it would be drinkable by now, but it appears another 5-10 years will pass before it begins to reach its plateau of maturity. This wine is capable of lasting at least four more decades. An incredible achievement! Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 183, June 2009. 12 bottles per lot. Estimate: 30,000 GBP - 40,000 GBP (38,010 USD - 50,680 USD)— LOT 163: Le Pin 1990: “Pomerol.” In original wooden cases. Original tissues. One slightly corroded capsule. Levels: five base of neck and seven top-shoulder. Tasting note: The 1990 Le Pin has more in common with the 1982 than most wines of this vintage. This wine exhibits concentrated fig, blackberry, creme de cassis, kirsch, roasted coffee, herb, and spice box characteristics, and incredible amounts of glycerin as well as velvety tannins. Still tasting like an adolescent, it rocks and rolls across the palate in a glorious manner. Anticipated maturity: now-2025. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 183, June 2009. 12 bottles per lot. Estimate: 30,000 GBP - 40,000 GBP (38,010 USD - 50,680 USD)— LOT 523: Domaine Romanee-Conti: “Romanee-Conti 2001.” 3 bottles per lot. Offered in-bond, available duty-paid. Slightly bin-soiled labels. Levels: 1cm or better. Estimate: 30,000 GBP - 42,000 GBP (38,010 USD - 53,214 USD)For details, visit: https://www.christies.com/Click on the slideshow for the highlights of the sale.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
