Art Institute of Chicago hosts “Shakers and Movers: Selections from the Collection of Dr Thomas and Jan Pavlovic,” an exhibition that celebrates the craft of the Shakers community, on view through Fall 2017.Known for their austere and rigid lifestyle, work was a form of worship for the Shakers and they employed unique techniques to build furniture that was like their faith: honest, simple, and humble. This first of its kind exhibition at the Art Institute features over 20 items made by the Shakers in the late 18th and 19th centuries and considers the Shakers tradition in the larger context of American furniture production and the artistic innovation that defined the country’s early history. The exhibition is on view at Gallery 168, 111 S Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60603, United States. For details, visit: artic.eduClick on the slideshow for a sneak peek.
