Jaquet Droz continues to enrich the timepieces offered in its lineup, and its latest Grande Seconde Moon Swiss Serpentinite has rock fragments from the Matterhorn. The moon and the Matterhorn are the main inspirations behind the Grande Seconde Moon Swiss Serpentinite from Jaquet Droz. Shaped like a sharp tooth, the iconic Matterhorn is a mountain that is indelibly linked to Switzerland and the Alps. The luxury Swiss watch manufacturer has used rock mined on the mountain to create the serpentinite dial. The scaly-looking rock, which derives its name from its texture that is similar to that of snake skin, was taken from the slopes near the Hornli Hut, which served as a base camp when the Matterhorn was first ascended in 1865.The rock serves as an anchor that roots the watch in the soil of Switzerland and also allows the wearer to carry a piece of the majestic mountain that is recognized worldwide. The company’s fine watchmaking skills and its “Philosophy of the Unique” are also showcased in the watch, which has a Moon Phase added to it. The watch also features the company’s signature “8” design, which consists of an off-centered hours and minutes and a large off-centered seconds hand dial. The moon phase is at the heart of the perpetual calendar, which is positioned inside the large seconds hand dial, thereby forming a nexus between date and Moon.Onboard the piece is a Jaquet Droz 2660QL3 self-winding mechanical movement with a power reserve of 68 hours. The case is made of steel and has a 43 mm diameter, and 18-karat white gold rings are featured on the dial. The Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Moon Swiss Serpentinite is available as part of a limited edition run of 88 pieces.Click on the slideshow to check the timepiece.http://www.blouinartinfo.comFounder: Louise Blouin Read more
