During the Miami Watches & Wonders 2019 show, which took place from February 15-17, the focus was on the latest offerings from top watch manufacturers. The show saw 28 watch brands including Girard-Perregaux showcasing its offerings and one among them was the Quasar. The watch attempts to recreate the light and shadow that exists in a Quasar, which in the universe is composed of gas spinning at high velocity into a central black hole.In creating the timepiece, Girard-Perregaux also stated that they focused on “exploring the cosmos, the essence of time.” The Swiss-based luxury watch manufacturer has been using innovative materials and unexpected complications to create timepieces under the “Earth to Sky” theme. One of the creations under the theme was the Neo-Tourbillon with Three Bridges Skeleton, which was showcased last year. The Quasar is designed to reveal a new dimension of the iconic Neo-Tourbillon with Three bridges movement, which is showcased fully in a case entirely made of sapphire crystal. As a result, the timepiece has an architecture, which according to the company is “literally bursting with brightness.” Created with a 45 mm diameter case, the Quasar features a chimney-style glass, which is used to cover the movement bridges like a “telluric dome.” Onboard the timepiece is a GP09400-1035 reference movement, which is a modified version of the Calibre 9400, and it comes with the main plate removed. With a power reserve of 60 hours and functions such as a tourbillon, hours, minutes, and small seconds, the watch is designed to shine like a Quasar when worn.Click on the slideshow to check the timepiece.http://www.blouinartinfo.comFounder: Louise Blouin Read more
