Swatch creates New Flymagic Watch with Paramagnetic Nivachron Hairspring
New lineups from watch manufacturers often come with cutting-edge technology or features. Swatch, in much the same fashion, has chosen to focus on the paramagnetic Nivachron hairspring in the new Flymagic lineup of watches. The Swiss-based company, which is part of the Swatch Group, creates a wide range of affordable watches, many of which are disposable. However, in the Flymagic line, the focus is on a mechanical watch, which is based on the Sistem51 movement.Describing the new Flymagic line Swatch states that it “turns the watch world upside down.” Additionally, the company has billed the first timepiece in the lineup that has the paramagnetic Nivachron hairspring as coming with a “revolutionary twist.” The balance spring is created from an advanced titanium-based alloy that was recently developed and it comes with paramagnetic characteristics. The Nivachron balance spring helps reduce the influence of magnetic fields, which have a negative impact on mechanical watch movements. While reducing the detrimental influence of magnetic fields by a factor over 10, the balance spring is also resistant to temperature fluctuations and provides high shock resistance.The paramagnetic Nivachron hairspring is therefore expected to significantly improve the chronometric performance of the Flymagic watches. Onboard the watch, are finely finished modules and a skeletonized gear train, which are highly visible and provide a high-end look and feel, while the seconds hand is designed to run backward.Swatch has created three Flymagic models, each of which come in a limited edition run of 500 pieces.
