Adidas and Eddie Huang have collaborated in celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Pig and released a Special Edition Ultraboost. With the Chinese New Year of the Pig dawning on February 5, there have been a slew of offerings celebrating it. Adidas, the Germany-based company that creates shoes, various accessories, and clothing, and enjoys a huge international presence, is celebrating the New Year with a special edition of its Ultraboost model. The shoe was revealed in Los Angeles in an exclusive event, and comes with re-imagined elements that celebrate the Year of the Pig.The model was developed in collaboration with author and chef Eddie Huang, who is of Taiwanese-Chinese descent. According to Adidas, Huang stated that “the Ultraboost is meant to commemorate the holiday in a modern way”. Adidas also allowed Huang to redesign the shoe’s recognizable silhouette, and create an offering that “honors the Chinese New Year in a way that resonates with all generations.”Red — an auspicious color for the Chinese — forms a central element in the special edition Ultraboost. It comes with a bold red knit upper, with pink accents peppered across it. The shoe also has a Chinee Boyz BBQ sockliner, while its suede tongue has a panda embellished on it, which is a reference to the Human Panda nickname that Huang goes by.The kitchen-ready non-slip heel is water-resistant, and the shoe is finished with gold metal lace tips. To help usher in a prosperous new year, the shoe is stamped with a Chinese character that denotes Good Fortune. The Ultraboost will be available in the US and Canada from February 7 onward, with a price tag of $200.Click on the slideshow to check the shoe.http://www.blouinartinfo.comFounder: Louise Blouin Read more
