In their upcoming sale, “Retromobile 2019,” Artcurial will offer Collection MV Augusta, of which its two Prototypes — the 1975 MV Agusta 750 Prototype Injection and the 1975 MV Agusta 750 Turbo Prototype — have received the highest pre-auction estimate. The “Retromobile 2019” sale will be held on February 9, 2019, at Salon Retromobile Hall 2.2 Paris Expo - Porte de Versailles in Paris. The first MV Augusta model, the 1975 MV Agusta 750 Turbo Prototype “is highly sophisticated. It was equipped with a specific turbocharger with two turbines, one for low rpm and the other for high rpm. The bloc of the MV was pretty well-designed, but it had to be done all over again, starting with overheated cylinders. Tommy made a cylinder block with the best alloy available by increasing the displacement to 830 cm3 (inline feature with four separate cylinders), the oil sump was enlarged, and the oil pump fitted for the turbo system was developed. Issues pertaining to the overheated cylinder head were solved by means of plasma coating, a technique used on rockets to dissipate heat. The pistons benefited from the same treatment, as did the sodium exhaust valves (intake valves were made of titanium). The tailor-made connecting rods were made of titanium. The original clutch had given way to a tailor-made element for which the disks were also coated with plasma!” states the auction house in their press release. The pre-auction value of this motorcycle is estimated around € 140,000 - 220,000, and it will be a part of lot 239 at the auction. The second model, the 1975 MV Agusta 750 Prototype has the “braking system consisting of aluminum brake disks made of scandium and lithium, and coated with a ceramic layer. The motorbike had to be unique, both in terms of performance and aesthetics. He drew lines that Nye Frank eventually brought to life from aluminum aircraft panels. This true artist had remarkably designed Craig Breedlove's famous ‘streamliners’ that set absolute speed records in Bonneville. The result was stunning lines with a dashboard consisting of tailor-made aircraft manometers stamped with the MV logo. With an injection configuration, still in the 750cc class with the same internal technical specifications as the Turbo, this Sybil 001 prototype generated nearly 90 hp,” as mentioned by Artcurial in the release. The pre-auction estimate of this bike is also around € 140,000 - 220,000, and it will be offered in lot 240 at the auction. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
