Located in Dalston East London, the “Gouse” is a three-bedroom newly built house designed by award-winning interior architect Marta Nowicka, on a site that earlier served as a garden shed/garage. The name “Gouse,” is derived from “garage–house.”The area is characterized by residential Victorian buildings, which have been divided into flats. According to the designer, the “Gouse” brings a fresh modern space with a name and overall architectural/ interiors style paying homage to the origins of the space. The 45 sq/m site was originally a dilapidated end of garden garage/shed. “The main focus of the project was to conserve the ‘end of garden character,’ yet improve the appearance of the street scene,” as per the press release. For exterior design, Nowicka recreates a garage frontage to match the adjacent property and reinstates the original London yellow stock brick wall. The upper exterior features cedar shingle cladding resembling the look of a shed-like structure, blending the building with the surrounding garden landscape. The materials used for the interiors include herringbone oak floor, and timber stairs referencing a ladder. As per the release, a living wall with potted green plants dresses the rear lace brick wall creating an “indoor-outdoor living space” on the first floor. Additionally, views of the ash tree next door enhance this strong visual connection with nature despite being in the city. Next to the living room, is the master bedroom and a stone clad en-suite shower room with a glazed roof. In the basement sits the open plan timber veneer kitchen and dining room with a separate family bathroom. The terrace wall is cladded in scented cedar shingles emphasizing this “indoor-outdoor” flow around the house.Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the house. https://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
