Achille Salvagni brings iconic furniture and lighting pieces to Berkeley Square for his debut at the upcoming PAD London, taking place from October 1-7. Salvagni’s exhibition at the internationally acclaimed art and design fair has been curated as a tribute to Marie-Laure de Noailles’ signature eclectic style across genres and cultures.“The designer sets the scene with a muted palette of natural earth tones and textures reminiscent of the African Sahara — the backdrop to an inspiring combination of design and modern art, punctuated by tribal artefacts,” reveals Achille Salvagni Atelier.Highlights of the collection include a new edition of the “Spider” chandelier in a striking Blue de Savoie, and the Santiago sofa upholstered in a hand-woven Toyine Sellers fabric. Also featured are a pair of “Gae” chairs, with their oversized hand-engraved bronze feet, and an eye-catching coffee table that reveals Salvagni’s original approach to design and unique mastery of noble materials. The designer has created a new modular shelving system “Maasai,” produced in wood and bronze, especially for the fair. “Whilst its structural elements clearly reference the systems devised by mid-century practitioners such as Franco Albini and Ico Parisi, the shelf’s vertical suspension, with its elongated form, alludes to the weapons of Maasai warriors, hence the name, whilst the decorative bronze elements are reminiscent of tribal jewelry,” describes the Achille Salvagni Atelier. The limited edition pieces are complemented by an intimate exhibition of exceptional works by Bice Lazzari (1900-1981), regarded as one of the most innovative Italian Abstractionists of the 20th century. “Achille Salvagni has secured a selection of unseen Lazzari works for the fair thanks to his privileged access to the family estate. Described as the ‘Agnes Martin’ of Italy, she was largely unknown outside her country of birth, despite her significant contributions to Abstract and Minimal art, until her recent re-discovery with her first solo exhibition in London at Sotheby’s,” adds Achille Salvagni Atelier. The PAD London display is set in dialogue with the exhibition “Sahara,” which simultaneously takes place at Achille Salvagni Atelier in Mayfair.PAD London takes place from October 1 to October 7, 2018 at Berkeley Square, London. For more information, visit: https://www.achillesalvagni.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the collection.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
