Joy Mardini Design Gallery is featuring solo show of Marc Dibeh’s “Dimanche 6” at the Beirut gallery. On view through November 3, 2018, at Joy Mardini Design Gallery, Beirut, the exhibition revolves around Marc Dibeh’s focus on storytelling as a tribute to a joy-filled childhood and to a relationship between a mother and son.According to the gallery, for the collection, the story is a throwback to the ‘80s and early ‘90s where Marc travels back to visit his childhood memories and experiences which he later interprets into sketches. Those sketches of joyful memories are then translated into objects. From drawings to sketches, Marc brings his creations to life with a desire to explore the unknown and take himself beyond his comfort zone.“He tackles various shapes — all having a soft geometry in common — and uses white and its distinctive textures, as a starting point. He allows the light to caress the elements, creating softness by binding the curves and transmitting emotions through this sensory reflection,” the gallery writes.“In this collection, the object is much more than a given reality, it summons the sensitive, questions the shape, evokes the durability of the feeling, establishes a new elastic order where the place of the designer, the one of the object and its acquirer are no longer so defined. He creates the story, the ‘drama’ in the theatrical sense of the word, because it is he who connects us at this difficult moment, at these happy moments. If it does not become protagonist in our lives, it is in any case the interface that traces the story of a correspondence to another by mirror effect,” Francois Leblanc Di Cicilia, the director of Gallery S. Bensimon says.Marc Dibeh is a Beirut- based designer who opened his studio in 2009. He studied Architecture at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Paris Val De Seine before returning to Beirut in 2006 where he received a Masters in Product Design from Academie Libanaise des Beaux Arts. After completing his Masters degree, he worked for designer Marc Baroud before opening his own space following Baroud’s advice. They later collaborated together on several projects. The philosophy of his studio is mainly based on collaborations, which by definition implies working with other fellow designers or non-designers.He has been selected along with Marc Baroud, as part of the five breakout stars of the design Miami, Miami edition in 2013 by the Wall Street Journal after exhibiting the “Wires” series with Art Factum Gallery. He was also selected as part of the five up and coming designers of the design Miami, Basel edition in 2015 by Artsy. He exhibited in Milan, Miami, Basel, Dubai, Lausanne, London, Paris, and Beirut where he also teaches at the Academie Libanaise des Beaux Arts. For his most recent work, Marc has received the 2018 Rising Talents Award by Maison et Objet with fellow Lebanese designers.Since 2011, the JM design practice has been developing proficiency in collectable, customizable, and modular product design that has continuously evolved in dialogue with their clients. “Dimanche 6” is on view through November 3, 2018 at Joy Mardini Design Gallery, Najem bldg, ground floor, Gouraud street, Gemmayze, Beirut, Lebanon. For details, visit: http://jmdesigngallery.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
