Designers Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta’s latest work invites the audience to view the unique process of crystals growing onsite into a grand chandelier.Designers Zdeněk Vacek and Daniel Pošta, who work in Prague under the name ZORYA, have designed a festive candlestick for the Bergpalais of the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Schloss Pillnitz as part of the project “From Dust to Glitter - or: Like a Crystal Luster Grows.” On view through November 4, the show gives a peek into the growth process of the material, a crystallizing alum, as well as presents the finished product. The designer duo are growing the individual components of the chandelier onsite. “The exhibition of the Kunstgewerbemuseum of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden will be the last presentation of Tulga Beyerle in Pillnitz,” the museum says.“Over the course of three weeks, the genesis of the crystal chandelier can be observed and a fascinating insight into the individual stages of development can be gleaned through raw material, tools, and filmic documentation. Following the final assembly of the individual parts, the completed chandelier will be installed on September 15 as part of a ceremonial inaugural lighting in the Bergpalais,” the museum adds.Vacek and Pošta have been experimenting with the crystallization process of minerals for several years, producing unique pieces of jewelry. The exhibition project is a further development of the concept of the jewelry collection “VIRUS” from the year 2011 and the most extensive and small-scale project so far, which is based on the technique of controlled crystallization. For their work as designers, ZORYA equally draws inspiration from applied art and traditional craftsmanship and design methods. Thus, the exhibition also deals with the creative and innovative potential of contemporary design and brings the combination of art, traditional crafts, and scientific processes into a museum context. The collaboration with ZORYA is a continuation of the intensive exchange with designers from the neighboring countries, Czech Republic and Poland.Founded in 1876, Kunstgewerbemuseum was affiliated to the Dresden School of Applied Arts and was intended to promote quality awareness of materiality and design, as well as a sense of form and taste for students, visitors and producers from industry and commerce. http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
