“Poeme Brut” at Design Museum Gent presents works of a group of designers who show a renewed interest in crafts, local techniques, and materials. The exhibition has been curated by Siegrid Demyttenaere and atelier lachaert dhanis, who selected international iconic designers, as well as emerging young talent.“In recent years, their focus has shifted to manufacturing processes and materiality as a counterpoint to globalization and dematerialization. A central theme in the exhibition is the outcome of this research into materials and techniques. Some designs use old, forgotten materials and new techniques or technology to process them, while others are the result of an old craft in combination with a new material,” writes the museum.“All the design objects are tactile, with a poetic undercurrent and a largely ‘rough’ and ‘unfinished’ design idiom. ‘Poeme Brut’ zooms in on the designer as a maker, as an alchemist who is inspired by the special properties of matter and innovative ways for processing it, as well as its potential in a contemporary context,” adds the museum. Some of the designers featured in the show include Atelier NL, Carlo Lorenzetti, Formafantasma, Hans Henning Pedersen, Jolan van der Wiel, wangho Lee, Max Lamb, Michael Young, Nendo, Olivier van Herpt, Roxane Lahidji, Sophie Rowley, Tamara Orjola, Thomas Ballouhey, and Tom Price, among others. The exhibition is on view through November 11, 2018, at Design Museum Gent , Jan Breydelstraat 5, 9000 Ghent, Belgium. For more information, visit: https://www.designmuseumgent.be/en/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
