Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) has selected Herzog & de Meuron as the design consultant for a significant expansion and retrofit of the school’s Gund Hall into a 21st century hub of design innovation. Design development has commenced and will continue through the summer months until early Fall 2018.Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron said: “We have always admired the intellectual spirit and free-thinking atmosphere of the school with its mythic Gund Hall building, and can now transform this building by excavating, adding, and connecting spaces that will support communication and exchange within the GSD community.”“The proposed design connects the GSD’s backyard to Gund Hall’s front facade while improving accessibility and orientation inside and outside the building. The addition provides a new entry and focal point on Quincy Street, formalizes Gund Hall’s back entrance, and coherently connects the entire building to the surrounding campus and backyard — Harvard GSD’s most dynamic outdoor space. Importantly, all programs added to Gund Hall by the addition will leave the backyard untouched and open,” stated Herzog & de Meuron in a press announcement.http://www.blouinartinfo.com Founder: Louise Blouin Read more
