Galerie Dansk Mobelkunst, Paris will be participating in TEFAF New York 2018 commencing from May 4, 2018.Dansk Mobelkunst Gallery specializes in rare, original works of Danish furniture that were created during 1920-70. For TEFAF New York 2018, Ole Hostbo, founder of the gallery has selected a set of major pieces which include: ceramic pieces by artist Birger Kaipiainen, textile by artist and weaver Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom, desk by Hans J. Wegner, among others.Ceramic artist Birger Kaipiainen (1915 – 1988) was a leading figure in the field of 20th century Nordic ceramics. His work is characterized by an extraordinary, colorful creativity that seems remarkably ahead of its time. In 1937 he was offered a position in the art department of the Arabia factory where he enjoyed an artistic freedom to fulfil his dreamy visions — free from the constraints of industrial production. The pieces he created for Arabia are refined examples. Beautifully decorated with colorful grapes, berries, and flowers, they are influenced by the art of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance as well as by his own childhood memories. It is said that the basic tone of Kaipiainen’s work is a romantic nostalgia; an escape from the present ‘Everyday’ and a yearning for the ‘Elsewhere,’ a more beautiful world infused with memories gilded by time.Swedish textile artist and weaver Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom was one of the leading figures in 20th century textile design and worked for different museums and handicrafts associations before she founded her own studio and workshop in the little town of Bastad, in the southwest of Sweden. She created designs for rugs and furnishing fabrics which were then woven by local women. Her most important source of inspiration was the Swedish countryside with its profusion of wild flowers and animals, but it is above all a refined sense of colors and composition, that constitutes her very own style.Hans J. Wegner became internationally acclaimed mainly for his chairs, yet his tables are just as expressive, artistic, and thoroughly designed. Named the “Architect’s Desk,” the present example is one of Wegner’s most grandiose desks, characterized by a sound, powerful presence and a strong graphic outline. The design is reminiscent of 17th-century Spanish tables with slanted legs and metal struts. The tabletop and drawers are in teak, the legs in oak and the high-quality craftsmanship is executed by master cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen. The TEFAF NEW-YORK 2018 will run from May 4 through May 8, 2018 at TEFAF NEW-YORK, Park Avenue Armory, 643 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10065- USA.For details about the gallery, visit: http://www.dmk.dk/ Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.http://www.blouinartinfo.com/ Founder Louise Blouin Read more
