A modular home designed by French architect Jean Nouvel is perhaps one of the largest highlights at this year’s FIAC “Hors les Murs” program. The architectural installation titled “Simple,” on view at the Tuileries Gardens, is constructed of lightweight aluminum exterior panels, a layer of thermally-efficient insulating foam, and wooden interior lining. The 6 x 6 meter, one-bedroom shelter can be expanded all the way to a 144 square meter four bedroom home, with sliding interior windows and partitions allowing for maximum individuality.Nouvel designed “Simple” as a limited edition for Revolution Prefabricated, a collection of pre-crafted homes and pavilions conceived by New York and Manila based design and real estate developer Robbie Antonio, who wants to democratize high design and architecture with this project, as well as target collectors. So far, more than 40 architects, artists, and designers have contributed to the series, including Estudio Campana, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Tom Dixon, Sou Fujimoto, Zaha Hadid, Kengo Kuma, David Salle, Marcel Wanders, SelgasCano, and Studio Libeskind. With his project, Antonio wants to bring together world class design, cutting-edge technologies and cost-efficient production systems, thus providing new impulses for design and architecture. Revolution Prefabricated launched at Design Miami in December 2015 with Zaha Hadid’s VOLU Dining Pavilion. Nouvel’s “Simple” is the first project to be released to the public, complemented at FIAC by Ron Arad’s “Armadillo Tea Pavilion,” which was also created as a limited edition for Revolution Precrafted and premiered at Design Miami/ Basel earlier this year. “Hors les Murs,” FIAC’s outdoor program in the Tuileries Garden also features works by Pezo von Ellrichshausen, Jean Prouvé, Michael Sailstorfer, and Jacques Julien among others.
