Peter Marino celebrates the launch of his new vase collection “Black Belt,” in collaboration with historic Italian glass company, Venini. The gently-rounded vessels, tinted in pale shades of green and pink are accented with painterly bands of black and filled with peonies.Marino said, “It is not just about art; I like art that is used, so I made vases for flowers because I am a flower freak.” Marino’s collection is the latest in Venini’s longstanding work with contemporary architects. The glass company recently launched a collection by Tadao Ando titled “Cosmos.” It comprises three rectilinear vessels that interlock to form a spherical void -— the Japanese master’s meditation on nothingness.Seen in tandem with Marino’s “Black Belt,” “Cosmos” is a visual lesson in the diverse art of glassmaking. Ando’s precise geometries contrast heavily with Marino’s bulbous and more organic forms. “That is the beauty of working with great architects — they are so different from one another, and from the craftsmanship point of view, it is always a technical challenge,” said Silvia Damiani, of Damiani family of legacy jewelers, who acquired Venini last year. “Black Belt” and “Cosmos” vase collections are on view through November 30, 2017 at Les Ateliers Courbet, New York, 134 10th Ave, New York 10011, USA, noted Wallpaper.
