The award celebrates creativity, excellence, and innovation in the field of art and design.MAD has been acknowledging design leaders and visionaries for “their transformative ideas in the sphere of contemporary craft” for the past 20 years. The museum supports artists working in craft-related disciplines, and the award is conferred on artists and designers who have done exceptional work in the fields related to craft. This year’s awardee Barnaba Fornasetti says, “Decoration can convey a message of culture and for me, MAD Visionaries! Award is a recognition of this."Born in Milan in 1950, Barnaba Fornasetti is the only child of Italian surrealist designer Piero Fornasetti. After completing his studies at Accademia delle Belle Arti, Fornasetti renovated farmhouses in Tuscany for some years, before moving to Milan to work with his father. After Piero’s death in 1988, Barnaba took over the family business and has, since then, dedicatedly preserved the traditional craftsmanship as well as expanded his paternal legacy to include fabrics, ties, ceramic tiles, home fragrances, rugs, wall papers, and parquet.Barnaba has taken decoration beyond design to the fields of publishing and theater.
