UNStudio along with Werner Sobek has designed a new kind of high-rise for Dubai — Wasl Tower — which boasts of being one of the world’s tallest ceramic facades. The project, when complete, will stand along Sheikh Zayed Road, directly opposite Burj Khalifa.Wasl Tower’s design is inspired from the city of Dubai itself, which appears like an ever-evolving organizm in the backdrop of a dark desert during the night time. The svelte 300-meter tall tower adopts a ‘contrapposto’ movement, which opens it up in almost every direction. The design works in close cooperation with the building’s engineering and sustainability concept, developed by Werner Sobek, defining its scale, Physics, and materialization. The architecture incorporates a seamless technological base, interactive light levels, and good acoustics. An open seam, created by stacking balconies one over the other, runs from the ground to the top of the tower, forming a green ‘vertical boulevard’ and providing a glimpse into the interiors. The mixed-use building will house offices, apartments, guest rooms, and public spaces. The building, which will be operated by Mandarin Oriental, will also house the luxury MO@Dubai hotel. For more details, visit: www.unstudio.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the project.
