Celebrated Italian designer Achille Salvagni draws inspiration from East Asia for his recent works being presented in the exhibition “Kyoto.”The designer is known for his creations that are heavily influenced by Roman Design. For his latest collection, however, he makes a departure from Rome and turns towards Japan, inspired by the country’s minimal aesthetic and rich cultural history. With soft silk carpet in natural color inspired from tatami flooring, a white bronze chandelier with its cascading design, and the Lancea floor and table lamps in traditional Japanese silk, Salvagni recreates the ambience of traditional Japanese interiors. The exhibition evokes the serenity of Kyoto, the Japanese city known for its rich cultural heritage.Salvagni’s Gae armchair is a contemporary take on the bamboo basket chair by Japanese artists Isamu Kenmochi and Isamu Noguchi. The design of Fabula dining table is an homage to Hokkaido wolf revered in some parts of Japan as the deity Horkew Kamuy or Howling God. Salvagni’s signature materials — onyx bronze, gold-leaf and parchment — are reimagined in this Japanese theme. Achille Salvagni has also collaborated with porcelain manufacturer J.L. Coquet for “Lutèce,” reinvigorating their “Hemisphere” collection in his own signature style.Born in 1970 in Rome, Achille Salvagni is an internationally acclaimed designer for luxury superyachts and residences. Paul Simon, Gisele Bündchen and Jeff Koons are among the designer’s prestigious clients and his key works have been auctioned at Sotheby’s and Piasa. The exhibition “Kyoto” is on view through January 12, 2018 at Achille Salvagni Atelier, 12 Grafton Street, London, W1S 4ERFor more details, visit: https://www.achillesalvagni.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the exhibition.
