Heatherwick Studio recently launched their innovative “Friction Table” during the Frieze Art Fair week. The table is on display at Daniel Katz Gallery from October 3 through October 20, 2017.“Friction table” is part of the studio’s experimental design work series. It has been designed ingeniously to adapt to different spaces and functions by changing its proportions. In its round form at 1.8 meters, it can seat groups of eight. The table can be extended into a long ellipse, reaching over 4 meters. It uses the simple mechanical device of the lattice with precision execution, which helps in changing its proportions. Produced in an edition of 7 + 1 AP, the table is the first new edition from the studio after a gap of five years.Led by British designer Thomas Heatherwick, the studio is internationally renowned for the UK Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, the Olympic Cauldron for the London 2012 Olympics, and the award-winning Learning Hub at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University.“Friction Table” is on display through October 20, 2017, at Daniel Katz Gallery 6 Hill Street, Mayfair, London, W1J 5NF.For more details, visit: http://www.heatherwick.com/Click on the slideshow for a sneak peek at the table.
