R & Company, New York presents “Oops,” an exhibition showcasing works by Paris-based design atelier Pierre Yovanovitch.“Oops” is part of the gallery’s annual guest curator exhibition, where an interior designer or architect is invited to transform the gallery space. The exhibition showcases 24 custom designs by Yovanovitch, important historical and contemporary works from the gallery’s permanent collection, in addition to a curation of artworks from American and French fine-art galleries.Pierre presents a wide range of materials, patterns, and colors chosen for their diversity, authenticity, and decorative appeal. The collection includes tables, chairs, armchairs, sofas, and suspended table, floor, and wall lighting, each stamped with the designer’s signature PY emblem. Included in this series is Yovanovitch’s signature “Bear Armchair,” which is presented for the first time in sheepskin and now includes three different sizes – Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear. “In this exhibition, I wanted to reference vintage design in addition to showcasing contemporary works. I like doing things that are very poetic. With the bears, it’s like an animal drawn by hand. You see that, and then you see the craftsmanship. You feel nature and man. I want furniture that you’re happy to live with, that’s comfortable,” said Yovanovitch.Yovanovitch wants to encourage people to appreciate the more free-spirited, humanist aspects of his approach. In his streamlined yet animated interiors, he layers contemporary art and commissioned designs, where natural materials assume distinctive, modern forms. Zesty Meyers, co-founder of R & Company, said, “Pierre is becoming the superstar of 21st-century France. I think he has captured the French spirit and has brought it into the future. He cares, and that is why he’s not a one-hit wonder.”The exhibition is on view through October 26, 2017, at R & Company, New York, 82 Franklin Street, New York 10013, USA, noted Wallpaper. Read more
